NHS England leads the NHS in England, setting the priorities and direction of the NHS and informing the national debate to improve health and care.
We want everyone to have greater control of their health and wellbeing, and to be supported to live longer, healthier lives by high quality health and care services that are compassionate, inclusive and constantly-improving.
NHS England shares out more than £100 billion in funds and holds organisations to account for their spending. Our work involves the commissioning of health care services in England, commissioning the contracts for GPs, pharmacists, and dentists and we support local health services that are led by groups of GPs called Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs). We have devised and are delivering a strategic vision for the NHS, along with our partners in health, called the Five Year Forward View. This vision shows that we are getting serious about prevention, identifying and delivering improvements in health care, redesigning the NHS so it continues to meet the needs of patients, ensuring the NHS is financially sustainable and engaging the public in this whole process.
We strongly believe in health and high quality care for all, now and for future generations.
Please note, if the advertised role is based in London on an Agenda for Change Pay Band, it will attract a High Cost Area Supplement. If this post is an Executive or Senior Manager (ESM) role or Medical Leader position this supplement is not applicable. If you are taking up this post on a part time basis, your salary and any allowances will be adjusted pro rata.
We will not accept applications for this position by CV or via recruitment agencies.
The NHSBSA is responsible for the processing of your application; a privacy notice is attached to advise you on how we will process your personal data.
Our Senior Programme Manager position is ideal for candidates who are seeking opportunities to work for NHS England’s priority programmes and projects.
We want to hear from you - we strongly encourage candidates to get in touch to learn more about our C&PD team and the work we do.
The role will be offered on a secondment basis only. You should gain agreement from your current employer beforehand to allow you to be released under this arrangement.
The Role and Your Experience
As a Senior Programme Manager within C&PD, you will be a senior member of a dynamic team in providing an effective flexible service to support teams from across NHS England in their work to deliver the NHS Five Year Forward View.
Having strong core project and programme management skills is a must, but we also want to recruit experienced professionals with a side range of skills and backgrounds. Therefore, additional skills or experience in any of the following is also beneficial:
You will be part of a great team with staff based in London and Leeds. We provide significant opportunities for professional development as well as opportunities to contribute to the development of our team and service model.
The C&PD team, within the Transformation and Corporate Operations (TCO) Directorate, supports NHS England programmes to achieve strategic objectives and priorities for the NHS.
Our team members work and thrive in a dynamic, matrix-style team environment and enjoy solving complex health and care problems. The team acts as a flexible pool of resources that provide dedicated support, advice and expertise in programme management, delivery and mobilisation, organisational change, and other areas. By providing these resources and expertise internally, we optimise the use of skills and retain talent currently within the organisation whilst reducing spending on external contractors.
Our team supports a wide range of high-profile programmes and transformative initiatives within NHS England, with the majority of our work delivering against our established health and care priorities from the Five Year Forward View.
Some examples of the programmes we have and/or are supporting include: New Models of Care, Mental Health Task Force, 100,000 Genomes Programme, National Diabetes Prevention Programme, the National Cancer Strategy, Specialised commissioning ‘Right Care’ and the General Practice Forward View.
We are keen to hear from candidates who are passionate about transformation and want to make meaningful impact to the wider NHS.
