Are you interested in involving patients and the public get more involved with NHS England’s work? (Full-time, Fixed Term Post)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join NHS England’s Public Participation team in the central support office. We are looking for someone to join our dynamic team and work with us on creative and innovative approaches to improve our corporate patient and public engagement. 

In particular the post holder should have good knowledge of the following:
• Effective working across teams in NHS England
• Experience of involving patients and the public in health service improvement at a national level in your current/previous work history
• Experience of working in partnerships with patient organisations and/or the voluntary sector to influence healthcare improvements
• An understanding of the current changes and drivers in healthcare nationally
• An understanding of the levers and legislation in relation to public involvement in NHS settings
• Excellent programme management and communication skills

The role will involve:
• Working with colleagues in the Public Participation team to develop consistent corporate approaches for patient and public engagement.
• Organising engagement activities and supporting commissioners to involve patients and the public across a range of NHS England’s programmes of work
• Working collaboratively with our team, with other NHS England stakeholders and with patient groups and the voluntary sector.
• Delivering engaging public events and workshops that include health professionals and patients
• Commissioning external engagement delivery to support programmes of work
• Engaging with seldom heard groups that have poor access to services and health outcomes to help their voice to be heard more effectively
• Co-ordinating several programmes of work that dovetail together to achieve wider strategic outcomes
• Participate in relevant internal and external working groups/projects, services, and initiatives within the team
• The role will have a strong focus on involving children and young people. Experience of involving children and young people in health care issues is desirable. The role will also involve some weekend working, flexible working and time off in lieu arrangements are in place.

The post holder will be a key member of the public participation team whose overarching goal is to enable NHS England engage more effectively with patients and the public, improving our services and outcomes.

The post can be based in Skipton House, London or in Quarry House, Leeds. We support flexible working and postholders can work from home.

Applicant requirements

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
