If the advertised role is based in London on an Agenda for Change Pay Band, it will attract a High Cost Area supplement. This supplement is not applicable to Executive or Senior Manager or Medical Leader positions. For positions offered on a part time basis, salary and any allowances will be adjusted pro rata.

This vacancy is for an Analytical Officer (band 6), on a fixed-term contract until March 2019.

 

The post offers excellent opportunities to work closely with analytical and policy colleagues to deliver analysis that makes an impact on the implementation of a large, high-profile programme within the NHS.

 

Skills required: The role requires a mix of skills including:

    • Technical skills relating to data manipulation, analytical methods and problem solving.
    • They will have a degree in an analytical discipline including, but not limited to, economics, statistics, operational research, social research or public health.
    • Crucially, the post holder will have a good grasp of descriptive statistics and significance testing.
  • Project delivery – the post holder will have a structured approach to delivering analytical projects, while flexibly supporting the team’s overall effort to respond to policy queries.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate analysis to non-technical colleagues – crucially, the post holder will present the results of their work to colleagues in the Cancer Programme team and have an ability to present analytical work in a simple, yet insightful manner, drawing out core messages from a policy perspective as well as relevant caveats and limitations to the findings.

 

 

More specifically, the post holder will support the delivery of the team’s work programme by:

  • Conducting quantitative analysis on ad hoc questions, often covering new topics or data
  • Using knowledge and established practice of analytical techniques to provide quality, timely analysis, insight, intelligence and evidence: identifying data sources, checking data quality, computing variables of interest (e.g. in Excel), testing for patterns and correlations, interpreting relevance of findings and presenting summary results in an accessible manner (charts or tables).
  • Be able to bring together data and information from different sources, including when dealing with uncertain evidence.
  • Understand the importance of maintaining quality within analysis.
  • Being able to deliver own work programme independently.
  • Having excellent communication skills and be able to explain the results of one’s work to stakeholders and influence decisions.
  • Be able to work effectively with people with different perspectives.
  • Supporting the team to ensure that our work is managed and delivered effectively. Effectively manage risks in deliver their own work programme.
  • Be calm under pressure and able to juggle competing priorities and tight deadlines.
