A lot of the work we do involves the commissioning of health care services in England. We commission the contracts for GPs, pharmacists, and dentists and we support local health services that are led by groups of GPs called Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs). CCGs plan and pay for local services such as hospitals and ambulance services.

We have devised a strategic vision for the NHS, along with our partners in health, called the Five Year Forward View. And now, with our partners, we are delivering that vision. This vision shows that we are getting serious about prevention, identifying and delivering improvements in health care, redesigning the NHS so it continues to meet the needs of patients, ensuring the NHS is financially sustainable and engaging the public in this whole process.

Please note, if the advertised role is based in London on an Agenda for Change Pay Band, it will attract a High Cost Area Supplement. If this post is an Executive or Senior Manager (ESM) role or Medical Leader position this supplement is not applicable.

Nursing and Quality Team Business Coordinator – Band 6

Tenure: Secondment until 31/3/2019

Salary - Agenda for Change - £26,565-£35,577


As a Business Co-ordinator, the post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting managers and staff across the Cumbria and the North East sub region of NHS England North.


The Nursing and Quality Team is central to supporting delivery of NHS England’s business plan objective to provide a strategic approach to ensuring people have a positive experience of care and treatment and that people are cared for in a safe environment. Under the leadership of the Director of Nursing and Quality the team also provides professional leadership support to nurses and midwives in the Cumbria and North East area.


The post will specifically support programmes of work associated with:-



  • Continuous assessment and improvement of quality and safety within our directly commissioned services.


  • Leading quality improvement of the continuing healthcare agenda across Cumbria and the North East


  • Leading on delivery of the required  outcomes in Enhancing Health in Care Homes Framework across Cumbria & North East


  • Leading on delivery of system plans for workforce development, including the GP 5 year forward view and General Practice Nursing delivery plan. 

This post offers an opportunity to stretch your skills. The post holder will need to demonstrate their ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders.



As Business Co-ordinator the post holder will work as part of the DCO Team. There is an expectation that the post holder will have an understanding of the health and care system, establish networks and effective working relationship with partners across health and care organisations and maintain a close working relationship with the colleagues in the Nursing and Quality Team and the wider Cumbria and the North East DCO Team.


The post holder will support the team to ensure delivery of a system wide programme of work relating to improving the quality and safety of patient care, including ensuring arrangements for monitoring quality assurance and patient safety activities relating to domain 5 of the NHS Outcomes Framework are planned and managed effectively.
