Our Organisation

NHS England and NHS Improvement came together on 1 April 2019 as a new single organisation. The NHS Long Term Plan focuses on delivering integrated care to patients at the local level and we can best support the NHS to deliver this as a single integrated organisation.

Our new operating model represents a strong shift to regional delivery supported by expert corporate teams. Local health systems are supported by our integrated regional teams who play a major leadership role in the geographies they manage.

We are jointly committed to creating and maintaining a fair and supportive working environment and culture, where contributions are fully recognised and valued by all and staff feel empowered to carry out their duties to the best of their abilities. As employers we are committed to promoting and protecting the physical and mental health and well-being of all our staff. This underpins our values as set out in the NHS Constitution, supports us to be an Employer of Choice and ultimately enables our employees to support the effective care of our patients.

The Commercial Medicines Unit is part of the NHS England Commercial Medicines Directorate. The objective of the Directorate is to provide a commercial role to support patient access to the latest innovative and most clinically effective healthcare solutions.

The key aim of CMU is to deliver efficiencies, including cash-releasing savings, for the NHS in the procurement of medicines, initiate procurement projects, and ensure an efficient and effective supply chain for medicines from supplier to the patient.

We have an exciting opportunity that has arisen within the CMU for two Procurement Officers. You will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an agreed work plan of robust pharmaceutical framework agreements for use by NHS Secondary Care Trusts.  One vacancy will be based within our Generics Team and the other will be in our Blood Products, Dose Banded Chemotherapy and Nitric Oxide Team.

You will have CIPS / ICCM or equivalent experience, ideally within a public sector procurement organisation, have a high level of stakeholder engagement expertise and will be used to working on multiple projects in a fast-paced complex environment. You will also have excellent project management and IT skills, in particular full Office Suite.  In addition, you will have strong influencing skills to work with our critical supplier base and our key stakeholders.

If you have the ability and enthusiasm to join our team, the job description and person specification includes further important information on this exciting role.

The Commercial Medicines Unit locations are Leeds, London, Runcorn and Reading.
